Our opinion on the Impact of Urbanization

We believe that Urbanization had a positive impact on a lot of the things that we have today such as a good sanitation department in most cities, mass transit, and fire codes all came  from having cities were these were issues. Once these issues were found cities would find ways to fix them and those methods are now in all of the cities. Although there are some downsides to Urbanization such as higher crime rates from people that are not able to find a job and need a way to make a living would turn into thieves. A major impact of Urbanization was a change in were most jobs were found as the need for more people working on farms went down, the need for people in Urban areas was rising due to factories and others large business opportunities (Construction companies) being built and cities now have more opportunities than rural areas and the trend has stayed that way.

Some of the things that urbanization had affected, was not always good such as the growth of cities outpaced the ability of local governments to extend clean water, garbage collection, and sewage systems into poorer areas, so conditions in cities deteriorated (contriesquest.com). Urbanization had more people coming to the large cities which seemed to influence the crime rate which was a horrible impact of urbanization especially since the police departments were to small to make any impact on criminals at the time. At the time Urbanization had a bad impact on keeping buildings maintained in addition to lacking water with which to combat the fires, most cities were packed with houses made of wood which acted as kindling. The use of candles and kerosene heaters were a mjore cause of these fires (text book 471). A major thing that was bad about a lot of the fire hazards were that there were no fire codes on bussiness and other buildings which could become basic deathtraps such as the triangle shirtwaist fire. With little firefighters to combat the fires they would quickly spread out of control and the reason was that firefighting was a volunteer job. Cities had to be able to supply clean water to the population of the cities which could be problems since they couldn't build the water works as fast as the city would be expanding so a lot of residents of the cities would not have access to clean drinking water. The sanitation had become horrible in the cities especially in the poorer sections of the cities. A good thing about Urbanization was that it offered more jobs than rural areas had to offer.  While Urbanization did help contribute to better living conditions it had started as horrible living conditions with multiple families living in what is now the size of apartments. Going from one place to another in cities was originaly a very hard thing to do, but because of this good innovations were made in transportations such as street cars and electric subways came into exsistance which had a good impact and helped to improve mass transit in large cities for the future.
